Naturally Lower Blood Pressure
and Reduce risks of a Heart Attack

Gene Millen, Author - Revised 5/1/15

You Can Lower your blood pressure naturally!

How's your blood pressureJerry stared at the blood pressure machine in stunned disbelief.

His systolic pressure of 185 and diastolic number of 115 indicated that his risk of having a heart attack was triple the average, and for a stroke it was a whopping seven times greater!
He thought, "Surely there must be a mistake." The last time his blood pressure had been checked his doctor said that it was in the borderline range.
Of course this was a couple of years ago. A lot can happen in two years, and his pot belly bulged with the extra fat that he had been accumulating.
I told Jerry to take a few deep breaths and relax for a few minutes and we took a second reading. The second reading confirmed the first.
After a hurried visit to see his doctor, who prescribed a prescription drug, we got Jerry going on a monitored exercise a very slow and easy pace.

Within a few days the pressure began to respond favorably. A lot of folks are not so lucky. Thirty five percent of people with high blood pressure don't even know they have a problem and another 27% are at increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

You've heard the pharmaceutical evangelists shouting out their warnings: "Take your blood pressure medication, or face deadly consequences!"
Their warnings have merit...but the solution they offer leaves much to be desired. Although prescription drugs can be life saving they can also make your life miserable. Depending on the drugs of choice, adverse reactions range from decreased energy to a chronic hacking cough and reduced sexual vitality.
Left untreated, high blood pressure, described by doctors as hypertension, or the "silent killer," puts you at significant risk for host of problems. The consequences could be atherosclerosis, the technical term for heart disease, strokes and maybe worst of all, cognitive failure.

Twenty-eight percent of Americans have high blood pressure and don't know it, according to the American Heart Association. And despite the grim prognosis, only half of those people actually bother to get their blood pressure under control.

A recent clinical study by researchers at Harvard, "High blood pressure is one of the most preventable health conditions. But it plays a contributing role in more than 15 percent of deaths in the United States."

Naturally Lower Blood Pressure Without Medications.

While prescription drugs are the standard approach of most physicians to lower blood pressure, it may cause side effects such as leg cramps, dizziness, and insomnia. Fortunately, most people can bring down their blood pressure naturally without medications.

Sadly, many folks take potent drugs like ACE inhibitors, diuretics and calcium channel blockers to control their hypertension, even when their blood pressure is only in the moderately high range.

All of these drugs have side effects, including impotence, loss of libido, fatigue, drowsiness, dry cough, lightheadedness, and depression.
Worse, a major study has revealed that thousands of people die each year from prescription drugs, even properly prescribed drugs.

In most cases high blood pressure is reversible without drugs.

Following are just a few of the many natural techniques you can use to lower blood pressure:

The idea is to get you and me to take action before the blood pressure climbs any higher - and into the range where the risks of heart disease, stroke, and other problems are much greater.

Who Me...Exercise?

Losing a Few Pounds Can Make a Huge Difference.

If you're overweight, losing about 22 pounds can get you a 5-20 mm Hg benefit in systolic pressure.

Take some advice from someone who has been there. I'm not saying I procrastinated, but in my pre-heart bypass days, if I got the desire to exercise I would lay down until it went away.

In the pre-hypertensive range one of the first things you should consider is step up your exercise. Mayo Clinic staff suggests that brisk walking for 30 minutes 3 times per week can lower your blood pressure by 4-9 mm Hg.

The American College of Sports Medicine suggests that 20 minutes three times a week at a higher intensity is equivalent to 30 minutes daily at a leisurley pace.

The most effective program I've found was developed and patented by Dr. Al Sears, and it takes only a few minutes each day. I like the fact that you start off very slowly.
One of his patients actually lost 45 pounds by walking just
45 seconds at a time.

Heart Supplements Can Help Normalize Blood Pressure

CoQ10 (Co-enzyme Q10) has been shown to naturally lower blood pressure and is one of the most valuable investments you can make for your heart...and one of the most important nutrients you can take for your health.

Dr. David Williams says, "I tell friends and patients, 'If you can only take one or two supplements a day CoQ10 should absolutely be one of them."

Dr. Stephen Sinatra, CardiologistStephen Sinatra, M.D., a highly regarded heart surgeon and author of The Great Cholesterol Myth with Jonny Bowden says,

"A CoQ10 deficiency affects your heart as profoundly as a calcium deficiency would affect your bones."
CoQ10 is found in most cells, with especially high concentration in the heart. The heart never sleeps and it never takes a vacation. It beats more than 100,000 times each day, so it is very dependent on the energy generating power of CoQ10.

As an antioxidant, CoQ10 helps protect proteins and mitochondrial DNA from oxidative damage and, consequently, supports healthy heart, brain, and joints.

Research shows that CoQ10 can naturally lower blood pressure and makes cells healthier and less vulnerable to constriction, which can elevate pressure inside blood vessels.

Clinical Studies Show Omega 3 Oils
Naturally Lower Blood Pressure.

Krill oil not only supports improved blood pressure but also helps lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

An additional and little know benefit is that it also has been shown to increase the good HDL cholesterol.

The importance of HDL cholesterol for heart health has been very underrated. The INTERHEART Study, a world wide study that was conducted on the risks of heart attack came to the conclusion that the greatest contributor to heart disease (after smoking) is a low ratio of HDL cholesterol to LDL cholesterol.

The Framingham study research showed that the people who have the highest HDL cholesterol also live the longest!

The evidence is overwhelming that omega-3 fatty acids or, more specifically, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA from Krill oil improve memory, recall, reasoning and focus.

One of the most important krill oil benefits is its effectiveness in preventing sudden cardiac death, death from heart disease, and certain arrhythmias.

Krill Oil Benefits described on the Dr. Oz Website by Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD

"A 2007 study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that 300mg daily supplementation of krill oil resulted in significant decreases in inflammation and arthritic symptoms in cardiac and arthritis patients.
