Heart Health Articles
For Your Enjoyment

I'm Gene Millen. What qualifies me to write heart health articles? Well, here's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

It was a pleasant fall morning as my wife Bernie and I casually drove to Valley Heart Associates  for a “routine” thallium treadmill test.

Upon arrival at the cardiologist’s office the proficient nurses wired me up to the cardiac monitors and I was looking forward to “showing them my stuff”.

After about 3 minutes of huffing and puffing on the treadmill the technician stopped the instrument of torture, unhooked me and guided me to a chair for a very welcome rest.

A few minutes later a nurse said, “The doctor would like to see you now.” and ushered me into the cardiologist’s office. As I sat down he was staring at my chart with a deep frown on his face.

“I don’t like what I see here”, he said, “You are a walking time bomb. You need to go to the hospital immediately.”

The probability of writing heart health articles was looming its ugly head. My wife and I were in a state of shock as we drove to the hospital and went through the check-in process.

Two days later Dr. Hugh Tobin, a highly skilled heart surgeon, sawed open my heart and stitched in bypasses to six of my favorite arteries.

A six way heart bypass isn’t a record but it’s not bad for a 59 year old with normal cholesterol and blood pressure and no weight problem.

A wake up call.
The unanticipated "brush with death" and my wife’s interest in keeping me alive, jump-started me to change my priorities and started me on the road to writing heart health articles.

I suddenly “found” the time to exercise and became highly motivated to learn about healthy foods and nutritional supplements that would improve my cholesterol and keep a heart attack at bay.

Hear is a sampling of some of my heart health articles:

Need more energy? Taking Lipitor or Zocor? You need Coenzyme Q10! Statin drugs will rob you of CoQ10

HDL Cholesterol and Superman. Both are "More powerful than a Speeding locomotive".
This describes the powers of the superhero in the “Heart Attack Drama”, HDL (high density lipoprotein) cholesterol.

Is Your Body a Vintage Model or a Junker?
The human body is a remarkable machine. It will work well for 100 years or more—if given the proper care and maintenance.

Heart attack odds you can live with.

PS:

As Fitness/Wellness Director of a residential retirement community in the San Joaquin Valley of California, my responsibility is to provide the heart health articles, motivation and programming to keep our residents vital, active and mentally sharp.

The last thing you and I need in the prime of our lives is to have our memory go south on us...and the good news is that new brain studies conclusively show that we can ramp up brain fitness and rejuvenate our memory...no matter what our age.

Lumosity is not the first "brain-training" site we've reviewed, but it is one of the most scientific.

Sign up for a Lumosity free trial and play games that have been lab-tested and shown to improve memory, attention, processing speed.

The games, such as Bird Watching and Monster Garden, are surprisingly fun, and it's also interesting to track your progress to see how your brain improves.

Click now to take advantage of their 14 day FREE Trial. Lumosity Brain Fitness Program is only $6.60 a month.

Another favorite game site is Happy Neuron Brain Fitness. Their entertaining games are fun and scientifically developed to challenge several areas of your brain and keep it improving.

The comprehensive program stimulates your attention, language, memory, visual-spatial and executive function skills. Happy Neuron also provides a Free Trial.

It's easy to try out either or both of these games and pick the one that suites you best.

The price is so low (about 32 cents per day) that I figured that I can't afford not to take advantage of both of these scientific brain trainers.

My brain can use all the help it can get.
